So this is real life....

I wonder if anyone will still read this seeing I am out of school. Well, I started work on May 7th, so while some of my friends are just finishing up their vacations and getting to work I have already been here for 5 weeks. Crazy huh. I am working for US Airways, which I agreed to back in January. As many know the world is a different place since January, especially the airline industry. Oil prices have devastated the airline industry like nothing has before, and things are rough. It is hard I have to admit, wondering if layoffs will hit me seeing I am only a month out of my MBA program. I am amazed how different each company can be, and just because you are an MBA does not mean you know what you are doing. I am learning a ton of things at US Airways that even if I do get laid off I will have still picked up some very valuable information. One of the best articles I have read was for the new MBAs just entering the work force in a down economy. I think everyone should take a look at it. It is called “Mean Street: MBAs, Listen Up!” http://blogs.wsj.com/deals/2008/05/19/mean-street-mbas-listen-up/?mod=psp_blogs Check it out, it is a great article. It speaks how a lot of us are not in our dream jobs that we thought we were going to get, but that does not mean that the job you are at right now cannot be a very rewarding experience. No matter where you are, you need to make the best of it and work hard. Things are nuts though, with oil prices killing the industry I am in, and with every airlines trying whatever they can to make money somehow. I only hope that you take it easy on us, all those extra fees are necessary so I can just keep my job. I do have to admit though even though it is stressful that I might lose my job, I am comforted that I have a strong resume, and that I have a great degree from a great University that I know I will land on my feet. For that I am very grateful.
