BYU MBA Program 2008

»April 23, 2008: Finals, 80s Party, and Topaz

I just finished my last final in the MBA program. Feels kind of weird I am finally done, kind of surreal. I have to say thought at least finals week was not as bad as usual. Most professors here are pretty cool and realized most second years are checked out so they took it easy on us, well, some did. It was nice though because it gave us the chance to concentrate on the real reason we all came ... ... (MORE)

»April 9, 2008: Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk!!

I know, I am a student at BYU, and granted, I have NEVER lived in or been to Kansas, but since I was 11 years old and thought that Jayhawk logo was cool I have been a huge fan. It has been some rough years, and my friends have constantly made fun of me year after year as my Jayhawks have lost in the tourney but now I have the last laugh. Man, it was great to get calls and emails of congratulati... ... (MORE)

»April 3, 2008: What BYU is good at

In our marketing class we just talked about what recruiters like about BYU, and why they like to hire students from the MBA program. This is what they said: 1) Ethics and Values 2) Hard Working 3) Works well with others and in teams A good point our Professor brought up is that these are good, but they can also be seen as weaknesses. It has been said that BYU students are good soldiers, bu... ... (MORE)

»March 25, 2008: Back from Argentina

You have to love a school that will pay for you to make a trip to Argentina. That is pretty awesome. Another group of my friends just got back from China as well. Two weeks ago a group of us here in the program got to go down to Argentina for a week for a field study. We were doing research on whether it is feasible to set up shop to sell a certain companies products in South America, and since... ... (MORE)

»March 2, 2008: 1st Block is done....

It is getting harder and harder to focus on school these days. Senioritis is definitely setting in. Pretty much all the second years here at BYU are more than ready to finish things up and get out of here and start making money again, except of a few of us that are going on to get PHDs. Good luck with that. Lately we have had a lot of opportunities to compete in competitions around here at BY... ... (MORE)

»February 11, 2008: Why won't you sleep?

Our child is now 2 months old now, and we have even tried to get him into a routine where we will give him a bath and read to him before he is supposed to go to sleep. The only problem is the kid will NOT do it. Man, what is the deal, they are supposed to sleep 16 hours a day. It is starting to drive us nuts, he will not go to bed. At least I only have 8am classes on Monday and Wednesday. ... ... (MORE)

»January 14, 2008: From Bachelor to a wife and kid

Well, I am back at school, and boy are things different. I went from living in a small apartment by myself playing Halo 3 online at 3am and eating Lucky Charms for dinner to living in a small apartment with my wife and child and NOT being able to do what I want. It is pretty crazy, but it is good to be living with my wife again, and my one month old son, even if he does keep me up all night. I ... ... (MORE)

»December 24, 2007: Baby, Job Offers, and Finals

It has been a while but I have a good excuse, I just had my first child. Yup, on December 8th our son was born, Kaylor Takeshi Hopkins. Pretty crazy huh, but things worked out. As you know I go to school at the BYU MBA program in Utah and my wife works for Microsoft in Reno, NV. I had planned to visit her on the weekend she was due, and luckily enough the night I got there her water broke so I ... ... (MORE)

»November 27, 2007: BYU bikers beware

Geez, it has been awhile, but check this out. I was riding my bike home from my 5pm class tonight (it is snowing here as well, nuts huh) and I got hit by a car. Ya, if you are coming to BYU and you like to ride your bike watch out! I was ok, and my $50 Dodge Viper bike from Toys R Us is ok as well, so I am good. At least I think, I hope I don t wake up tomorrow all messed up. The cars are craz... ... (MORE)

»November 5, 2007: The Great Mall of America?

Well, I just got back from my fly-back in Minnesota for North West Airlines and it went pretty well. There were students there from Thunderbird, Michigan State and Iowa. There were only 8 of us, and I guess that is a really small recruiting class than what they have done in the past, so I guess my chances are good. These fly backs though can get kind of crazy. You usually go to headquarters t... ... (MORE)
